Teaching in Syria
| |
For three and a half weeks I went to WADI International University in Syria to hold the lecture 'Mobile Commerce'. Although preparing and holding the lectures was tough and time consuming, I had enough spare time to travel around Syria. Summarized, Syria is a country full of contrasts and very, very interesting. On the downside are greedy taxi drivers, annoying customs officers, bureaucracy over and over, a secret police you better don't fool around with and finally a huge gap between poor and rich... more.

Paragliding in Iquique (Nothern Chile)
| |
The mankind’s dream of flying came true to me. Within four weeks I learned how to paraglide. Every day I had individual lessons in the world’s driest desert, the Atacama desert, which surrounds Iquique in the North of Chile. Beside learning how to paraglide I had a perfect time in Iquique with its wonderful beach and one of the best hostels I have ever been to. More... |

Backpacking in West Australia
| |
| From Perth to Albany in 4 days - that's what travel agencies usually offer when you ask for a trip to see the area between these two cities at Australia 's West Coast. Me it took 23 days as a hitchhiker. These "wasted" 19 days brought me one of the best times in my life. Beside wonderful nature I experienced how it is to navigate a real airplane, learned how to surf, felt like a bird during a paragliding course and had much fun with other backpackers and locals. | The Probably Most Beautiful Place on Earth: Southern Patagonia
| |
When I was in New Zealand I thought there couldn’t be any more beautiful places in the world. I was wrong - Southern Patagonia in South America is more beautiful! But be aware. It is at least as cold and rainy as New Zealand ;-). Anyway, I had a great time and there were many adventures waiting for me. More... |

Studying in Sydney
| |
| As a study abroad student I spent five month in Sydney at Macquarie University doing some Business courses. It was a great time. The "easy going" culture of the Australians is one of the most pleasant cultures I know so far. Furthermore nature in Australia is amazing with their kangaroos, wombats and so much more unique wildlife. Last but not least it is an excellent place for having some excellent parties! :-) More... |

| Touring through New Zealand
| |
| Together with two friends I traveled through New Zealand by car. Our journey started in Auckland and the following five weeks we were astonished by New Zealand's incredible landscape. Lonely beaches, rugged volcano areas, spectacular waterfalls, amazing glaciers and of course thousands of cows and sheeps on wonderful green lawns. More... |

2900 km Hitchhiking from Germany to Spain (Malaga/Andalusia)
| |
My girlfriend and I hitchhiked from Magdeburg (Germany) to Malaga (Andalucia, Spain) and stayed either with locals or camped in the wilderness. These holidays were just amazing. If you never tried hitchhiking over a couple of days or couchsurfing ... you really missed out something in your life. We met incredible hospitable people. Really unbelivable: one man gave us a lift at 3am although he wanted into the opposite direction (but he knew in the next hours no one else would give us a lift). This took him about 5 hours of driving. Another one offered his flat to us, gave us the keys and offered his car, without really knowing us. And these are just some of the highlights. More...

Learning Spanish in Argentina
| |
For six weeks I had the honour to learn Spanish in one of Argentina’s most beautiful cities: Mendoza. Mendoza is a green paradise with trees all over the city – and I do mean all over the city :-). During these six weeks I lived in a lovely host family that really gave me the feeling of being part of them. They gave me real insights into Argentinean (family) live and among others I could experience how different for instance Christmas, New Year, and birthday parties are celebrated in comparison to Germany. And yes - there was plenty of time to visit the area around Mendoza as you see on the picture above. More... |

| Camping and Hiking on La Palma (Canary Islands)
| |
When you are interested in perfect sunsets you must go to La Palma. La Palma is quite a small island close to Africa. It is dominated by Caldera de Taburiente, the largest erosion crater in the world. The highest peaks on La Palma reach 2400m which means you are above the clouds. Hence, when sun goes down you witness spectacular scenery with fantastic colours. More... |

| Working in Thailand
| |
| Thailand - obviously a good place for holidays but for working, too. With a friend I stayed seven weeks in Thailand and in these seven weeks we completely finished an extensive software project. Of course there was enough time to relax on white beaches, swim in crystal clear water, get impressed by Thailand's beautiful nature and to get in contact with the local culture. More... |

| MSc in Project Management at Lancaster University, England
| |
| I spent one year in England doing my MSc in Project Management at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS). It was the toughest time of my life. LUMS is in under the Top 5 of British Universities and under the Top 30 in the world (according to New York Times Ranking 2007). The program was loaded with heaps of coursework, assignments, homework and practical exercises, mostly accomplished in team work. Often we worked until midnight and continued the next morning at 8 o'clock. But it was not only the hardest time of my life. I've never learned that much within such a short period of time. More... |

Hiking in South/ West Australia
| |
| It was only a three day trip but it is definitely worth it's own travel report - my hike from Albany to Denmark in South/West Australia. With my backpack and my tent I walked all the way. Within three days in Australia's bush I saw the most beautiful sunset in my live, a sky completely filled with stars, I met not a living soul but three snakes and experienced what it means to have to fend for oneself.
